What is the Business Investor Visa?

The Business Investor Visa (BIV) creates a pathway to residence for committed and experienced business purchasers who can invest at least NZ$1 million and want to actively run a business in New Zealand.

The BIV offers flexibility matched to your investment capacity:

  • Standard Pathway: Invest NZ$1 million in an established business and apply for residence after 3 years of operation
  • Fast-Track Pathway: Invest NZ$2 million in an established business and apply for residence after just 12 months

Both pathways can lead to the same outcome—permanent New Zealand residence for you and your family.

Key Benefits:

  • Live and work in New Zealand
  • Pathway to permanent residence after 1 or 3 years
  • Include your partner and dependent children to age 19 in your initial BIV Work Visa. Dependent children can be included in your residence application up to age 24.
  • Flexible investment options across many types of business
  • Confidence in your investment since to be approved the business must have an established trading history of at least 5 years, employ at least 5 full time equivalent staff and must meet financial solvency criteria
