Product and Development Chemist

30 SECONDS® Limited is a leader in the manufacture and marketing of task-specific cleaning products based in Matamata, New Zealand, and has been established for more than 30yrs. They export to Australia, Asia, Europe, and the Pacific Islands, with all products produced in their Matamata based facility. Their range of chemical cleaning products targets both outdoor and indoor cleaning tasks with high efficacy standards, serving private customers and commercial cleaners. With a focus on delivering high-quality effective products, we pride ourselves on our strong partnerships with customers and retailers, ensuring our products reach a wide consumer base.

The Blueprint

You will be working Sole Charge reporting to the CEO and working alongside key team members including the Head of Marketing and Growth, the Operations Manager, Manufacturing Supervisor, R&D and Maintenance Foreman and Mixing and Changeover Foreman regarding manufacturing and testing requirements and shall have overall authority over the quality of the formulations. You will be well supported by the team.
 

Your focus will be on 3 key areas, which loosely covers:

 

Production Chemistry
  • QA/QC testing: Ensure our products meet all safety and regulatory standards.
  • Lean Focus: Observe and offer suggestions to streamline manufacturing processes.
  • Production Challenges: Tackle these head-on, problem solve and provide a solution.
Development—-NPD—Continuous Improvement

 
Formulate and Test: Develop, test, and refine cleaning product formulations to ensure optimal performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Scale-Up Production: Get approved formulations from lab-scale to commercial production.
Innovate and Source: Evaluate new ingredients and stay current with industry trends.
Collaborate: Work with marketing, packaging, and regulatory teams to launch new products.

General BAU
  • Record and Report: Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail with laboratory records and in preparing technical reports on research findings and production data.
  • Stay Curious: Consistently learning and researching the latest science and tech trends.
  • Team Player: Skilled in supporting Manufacturing, QC, and Customer service teams.
  • Balance Act: Juggle short-term needs with long-term goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) or a related scientific discipline.
  • Chemical Handlers certification (bonus)
Your experience should include:
  • Product Development: Preferably homecare or cleaning product formulation.
  • Chemistry Knowledge: Strong grasp of surfactants, solvents, and cleaning agents.
  • Innovative Spirit: Passion for creating new, effective cleaning products.
  • Safety Standards: Familiarity with safety and regulatory standards (advantageous)
  • ISO Knowledge: Understanding of ISO9001 and ISO 17025 (advantageous)
  • Travel: Occasional travel to other sites or customer locations.
  • Chemical Handling & PPE: Proficient in safely handling chemicals and operating equipment.
  • Relationship management: Suppliers, key stakeholders and consultant chemists
