What Personal Data We Collect And Why We Collect It
Cookies
Our website uses a technology called cookies. A cookie is a small element of data that our website may send to your computer. Any such cookie is typically stored on your computer’s hard drive and permits our website to recognise you when you return. Our use of cookies helps us to provide you with a better experience during your use of our website. You may configure your web browser to not accept cookies, although you may experience a loss of functionality as a result.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/ After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Embedded Content From Other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Personal Information
We will collect personal information such as name, email address, phone number and address if you provide it when submitting a contact form through our website.
When you visit our website we may collect more personal information, such as the address of your Internet service provider, the name of the web page directing you, and your clicks and activity on our site, through Google Analytics.
How Do We Use The Personal Information?
We may use your personal information to process your transactions, to administer your account, to help us to develop our website to be more available and user friendly to our customers, and for any other use which you may authorise.
In addition, we may use your personal information to promote and market our products and services. It is your right at any stage to request us to stop sending promotional material to you.
How Long Is Your Personal Information Retained For?
Unless we explain otherwise to you, we’ll hold your personal information based on the following criteria:
-
For as long as we have reasonable business needs, such as managing our relationship with you and managing our operations
-
For as long as we provide goods and/or services to you and then for as long as someone could bring a claim against us; and/or
-
Retention periods in line with legal and regulatory requirements or guidance.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
Google Analytics data will be deleted automatically after 26 months.
Will We Disclose Your Personal Information To Others?
We do not sell, trade or rent your personal information to others. However, we do use other companies and individuals to perform services on our behalf, such as delivering packages, or sending mail and emails. They will have access to your personal information needed to perform these services, but we will not authorise them to use your personal information for other purposes.
We may also disclose your personal information where such disclosure is required by law.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
How Can I Access My Personal Information?
You can contact us via email and we will supply you with a copy of your information within one month. You can request that we correct it or erase it. You can complain to the ICO if you believe we are mishandling your data.
